2018 Hair Essentials

My hair routine used to be shower, blow dry, brush, and go. Considering I grew up with my mom as a salon and spa manager, you would think I'd do more with my hair, but that has not always been the case. Sure, I'd love it when my mom braided or curled my hair, and of course I love going to a salon and getting my hair done, but doing it myself? It's a hopeless case. I can't braid my own hair, I can barely curl it, and it's so thick that it's often a nuisance to take care of.

Lately, I've been discovering new products and rediscovering old ones, slowly but surely forming a substantial hair routine. I've been obsessed with how my hair has been looking and feeling, so I thought I should share my secrets! Everyone obviously has different hair with different needs, but I believe these products could be useful for many, with different purposes and goals! (By the way, all of the items are linked - just click on the photos!)

The OUAI Volume Spray is exactly what I need to give my roots a lift. I've always had thick, thick hair and it weighs itself down, causing the top of my head to be super flat. People always suggested dry shampoo, but it just hasn't worked well for me. I purchased this spray just over a week ago and am already obsessed! If you need an all-over lift, you can spray it from the roots to the tips of your hair, but I just spray my roots. For only $26, I think this product is definitely worth the buy!

Moroccanoil has been a hair necessity between my mom and I for years. This hair oil smooths and protects our ends while making our hair smell absolutely incredible. When I was younger I always said that Moroccanoil should make a candle with their scent and now looking at their website, I see that they have! Seriously, this stuff is AMAZING. If there's one product I recommend for daily use, it's this one.

I hate the way my hair feels after having it in a tight ponytail for too long. Scrunchies and Invisibobbles are traceless, avoid headaches, and - this is a bonus - cute! I got a pack of 3 Invisibobbles from a Lauren Elizabeth subscription box and I love them. They keep my hair up while making sure its neat and secured. Scrunchies are a renewed trend from the 80s, making your hair look fun while it's in an updo. I love using my scrunchies when I put my hair in a half-up, half-down style. Keep it simple with neutral colors or play it up with bright, shiny ones! All in all, these hair accessories are great alternatives to your classic hair ties.

I've only recently discovered Love Beauty and Planet, but I fell quickly in love with their shampoo. I tend to have pretty frizzy hair, so when I found this shampoo that's supposed to smooth hair without making it look greasy, I was intrigued. When I first opened the bottle, I was immediately drawn in to its wonderful scent (argan oil and lavender? yes please!). The results it had on my hair after one wash was all it took for me to fall in love with this product. Did I mention that this brand works to make the world a better, less wasteful place? All of the products' bottles are 100% recycled (and 100% recyclable), the ingredients are natural and vegan, and they never test on animals. How amazing is that?

Using products that are good for the environment and your hair is the ultimate goal in my hair care routine. If you know of any other brands that use smart, natural ingredients and have a positive message, please reach out to me and let me know! In the end, it's all about having healthy hair. If you've tried any of these items I just raved about, what are your experiences with them? I'd love for you to share!

Thank you for coming back to Native City Girl and reading what I've been up to. I hope you all are enjoying your summer and making memories that will last a lifetime!

xo, Tyrah
